Attorney-General Elise Archer says community can have say during planning phase

In Question Time in State Parliament, Labor member for Braddon Anita Dow said the goverment's announcement in The Advocate was a shock to the community.

"To date the Liberal members for Braddon have been missing in action on this proposal," Ms Dow said.

"Labor does not support you riding roughshod over local communities claiming you will consult when your mind appears to be made up.

"Will you confirm that you have no intention of consulting with the Burnie community or changing your predetermined plans to move the Burnie Court complex out of the CBD to a residential and educational precinct?"

Attorney-General Elise Archer accused Labor of recycling old questions and said she had addressed concerns.

She said it was wrong for Ms Dow to say the Burnie City Council was not consulted when they were.

"I was very conscious in this process, as was my department who have been doing the consultation with stakeholders, that Burnie City Council will be the planning authority as well," Ms Archer said.

"That is why I left it then to meet with them personally. It was actually interesting that the person who moved the motion - the councillor - did not turn up to that briefing.

Ms Archer said design works and pre-planning matters were currently being worked through.

"As is always the case when we go through planning matters, the community is consulted, and we intend fully abiding by all of those planning requirements," she said.
