People required to take prescribed medication will be able to have electronic prescriptions sent to their mobile phones or email address.
The first lot of e-prescriptions have already been rolled out in the Launceston area.
In other news:
Pharmacy Guild of Australia state president John Dowling said an e-prescription typically came in the form of a QR code which could be scanned at a pharmacy.
He said the system would result in easier medication management.
"The token model is appropriate for people who are not taking multiple medications, suitable for an antibiotic as an example," Mr Dowling said.
"Toward the end of the year, the active script list model will also be available which suits people on multiple medications."
Normal paper prescriptions will still be available to patients who require them.
