Anthony Bullock no certainty to return to Tasmania when greyhound racing resumes next month

Bullock, who has won the trainers' premiership 11 times in the past 12 seasons, says he has become frustrated by bureaucratic red tape in Tasmania.

"I was planning to return home as soon as racing resumed but the Office Of Racing Integrity has been giving me a hard time over paperwork and stuff that I've never had to worry about before so I'm now thinking about staying (in Victoria) full-time," he said.

Bullock said he was also waiting on confirmation of the new race dates and Sky Channel coverage before making a final decision on his future.

"It's essential we regain the Sky Channel timeslots we had before the shutdown or it would jeopardise the whole industry in Tasmania," he said.

Bullock has an opportunity to lease training facilities at Geelong.

"One of the blokes where I'm staying now is moving out and I could take over his property," the trainer said.

"It's a good set-up that caters for about 60 dogs which is much the same as what I have in Tasmania."

Bullock moved to Victoria shortly after Tasmanian racing was shut down on April 2 and served his two weeks in isolation.

However, under the current rules, his own dogs had to be transferred to a Victorian-based trainer before they could race.

They are now campaigning under the name of leading mentor Brett Bravo.

"I've had about 25 runners and, although I've only won one race, I probably should have won five or six," he said.

"I've had about eight seconds and some of them have been very unlucky.

"Bridwood Marshal was going to win at The Meadows on Saturday night until he broke his scapula.

"It was a $6000 race but I don't care about the money. The main thing is that I've still got a dog and, after four or five weeks, he'll be back to fight another day."

Promising three-year-old pacer Kosimo paid for his trip to Victoria with a first-up win at Bendigo last week.

Exeter owner Mark Jones is now hoping the gelding can pick up another race before he returns home for the rich Globe Derby series.

Jones had Kosimo ready to return from a spell at Devonport on April 3 - the day after Tasmanian racing was shut down.

Rather than wait indefinitely for a restart date, the owner-trainer decided to send the horse to long-time friend Glenn Douglas in Victoria.

Kosimo was having his first start for Douglas at Bendigo when he rated 1:55.5 for 1650m.

"It was a good effort because he hadn't raced for nine months," Jones said.

"He's only a little fella so we decided to give him a good break after his five starts as a two-year-old when he showed he was up with the best.

"He'll probably have another couple of runs over there but then he'll be coming home because we've still got the Tasbred races to come."

The $50,000 Globe Derby was to have been run at Mowbray on June 21 but, along with all Sires Stake races, will be rescheduled to a later date.

As expected, the number of runners has skyrocketed for the third set of thoroughbred trials at Mowbray on Wednesday.

Last week, 25 horses trialled at Longford and another 16 at Elwick.

There are 54 entries for Mowbray and, with a field limit of four, it will necessitate 14 trials.

Further trials will be held in Hobart on Friday before a likely return to Spreyton next Tuesday.

Numbers are also picking up in harness racing, with 47 horses accepting for the 10 trials in Hobart on Monday night.
