This follows calls this week by New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham for states and territories to reopen their borders to allow the resumption of domestic tourism.
But Mr Gutwein on Tuesday said a date for reopening Tasmania's border would not be set until at least July.
On Wednesday, Tasmanian Liberal senator and Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism Jonathon Duniam said every decision being made by Mr Gutwein was in the interest of the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.
"I know Premier Gutwein as a proud Tasmanian is doing what is right by Tasmanians here, including Tasmanian businesses. The worst thing that could happen to the economy is if we reopen too soon and we have a second wave of outbreaks," Senator Duniam said.
In other news:
"The decisions made by Premiers, each of them dealing with different circumstances and different risks, are matters for them.
"All of us want to see borders reopen at a time that is appropriate."
Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the state would continue to make its decisions on the basis of Public Health advice.
"Tasmania was one of the first states to shut its borders, of course, and we we will continue to do so until the Public Health advice is otherwise," Mr Rockliff said.
"We will be making our own decisions in the best interest of our own state Tasmania and our citizens."
