Laptops for Children in Launceston organiser Shelley Foale said the idea came when her son's coach said his child didn't have a laptop, making learning from home difficult.
"We donated our laptop which we no longer needed at home to him and then it occurred to me that there are a lot of families in the same situation," she said.
Ms Foale said about 50 families have asked for a laptop, and already about 13 laptops have been donated.
A Gofundme page has also been created; it's raised about $1100, which will be used to buy second-hand laptops.
"A lot of families are feeling the strain and a lot of families can't afford a laptop right now," Ms Foale said.
