Longford residents in the neighbourhood near Back Creek can sleep easy as the resident wombat has been captured and released into Cradle Mountain National Park.

Its months of causing mischief by entering into peoples' homes, pooing on their lawn and stealing pet food along Herberts Road, Hobhouse Street and Burghley Street have ended.
A Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment spokesperson confirmed the wombat was captured early on Monday morning.

However the department would not confirm the exact location of the trap they set that eventually caught it.
The trap was set early last week by the department as it's a protected species, a permit is required to take or possess the species.
"[It] was a young, mature male," they said.
"After it was trapped, the wombat underwent a health check, then was transported to a suitable location away from the township and released back into the wild.
"Thank you again to Longford residents and wildlife carers for their support."
Residents were concerned it may be hit by a car at night or attacked by a resident's pet if it was not relocated.
