Right-arm quick Jake Reed, who last represented the Hurricanes in January 2017, has been plucked from obscurity to feature in the Hurricanes' 13-man squad for Saturday's clash with Sydney Thunder.
The 29-year-old has not played a first-class game since February 2017 but has history against the Thunder, taking a match-winning 4-11 off four overs at Spotless Stadium in 2015.
Reed played 10 matches all up for the Hurricanes between 2015 and 2017, taking 16 wickets at 17.31 with an economy rate of 8.93.
The Hurricanes have also added a third keeper-batsman to the squad, with 23-year-old left-hander Jake Doran in line to play his first BBL match of the campaign.
Mac Wright, who debuted in the round 2 loss to Melbourne Stars, and paceman David Moody have been dropped from the squad.
