After a successful launch in 2019, the Launnie Longneck Lager is making its return to Mona Foma this year.
However, first event organisers want to get to the bottom of one of the greatest debates of our time.
Is Launceston shortened to Lonnie or Launnie?
After the launch of the Moo Brew lager last year, MONA was made aware that not all locals agreed with the spelling chosen.
So this year, they're taking it to the people.
Votes on the controversial spelling will be compiled through The Examiner's online poll, Moo Brew's social media, or by purchasing one of the limited edition brews from venues around Launceston.
Variations of the two bottle designs will be available at the Gorge for the festival's King Ubu production on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights of the festival.
MONA marketing and communications director Robbie Brammall said the brew, which has been dubbed the "most Launceston lager ever brewed", was a way to celebrate Mona Foma's move North.
"Clearly that had to be a longneck," he said.
"And it had to have monkeys on the label, and it had to be brewed using the crystal clear waters of the Basin Pool."
He said the brew was a popular choice at last year's event.
"It's fair to say we underestimated the thirst of locals - it sold out in under 24 hours," he said.
"Also, we accidentally didn't brew enough."
MORE ON MONA FOMA
The actual makeup of the beer will be exactly the same as last year, Mr Brammall said.
"It will be the colour of the Tamar, it will be massively sessionable, and you'll be thirstier at the end of the longneck than you were at the start," he said.
Local pubs and bottle shops were already taking sides, Mr Brammall said.
"It could get pretty ugly," he said.
"On a side note, we're trying to find someone with a 'Lonnie' tattoo. So if you know anyone?"
The winner will be announced on January 18.
Some pubs and bottle shops around Launceston will be stocking the brew until it runs out.
However, Mr Brammall expected that to happen almost immediately.
Mona Foma will run from January 11 to 20.
