Along with planter boxes, the council has been exploring the possibility of hanging planters beneath each of the two new roof structures in the mall.
The first planter box is expected to be installed before Christmas. It's hexagonal and designed to butt against the seats.
City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said the council was eager to introduce more greenery into CBD.

"Eleven more [planter boxes] will be fabricated and installed early next year if the prototype proves successful," he said.
"In terms of the hanging planters, we are still in the scoping phase of this project, including investigating how this unique system will work in this location and to understand what plants will grow successfully."
A feasibility study for the arbour system in the mall has been scoped and confirmed that it is achievable.
FytoGreen has been engaged to carry out trials of plant species in the system to suit the council's needs. This system would be the first of its kind in Tasmania and the council is currently awaiting engineering advice on the project.
The old planter boxes are not in a suitable condition to be reused, the council said.
More details are expected to be released early next year.
