The camp pairs Grammar students and children with special needs who spend the weekend bonding and participating in a number of fun activities.

LCGS headmaster Richard Ford said he was really proud that the school community's been able to get together to provide a camp for children, giving their parents a bit of rest before Christmas.

"This year again we've got over 100 members of the Launceston Grammar community helping over the three-day camp and sleeping over, cooking and helping in so many different ways," he said.

This is the 15^th year of the camp, with 60 children and young adults participating in the camp.

"The students who are on the camp certainly do get to know their buddies ... there's also ways in which they do stay in touch over the year and really forge good connections," Mr Ford said.

"It's really lovely to have a number of Grammar alumni back helping out, it's great they had such a positive experience helping in our community that they don't want to stop."

Camp director Elizabeth Poland said taking part in the camp is life changing.

"I am passionate about helping young people make a difference in the world and this is a wonderful opportunity for our students to extend courage and compassion to others," she said.

"This year's camp has become a reunion camp with alumni now on the organising committee and many volunteering to help out behind-the-scenes."

Mr Ford said the camp was highlighted by the fact that recently graduated year 12 students choose to participate in the camp instead of relax after high school.

"We've got a huge number of year 12s that have chosen to be here as well ... other grade 12s across the country this time of year are indulging themselves but here these students are helping others," he said.
