The book was discovered on display at Queenstown's Empire Hotel by freemason Greg Parkinson, who had spent a considerable amount of time trying to find it.
"I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it on display.
"The book is of particular importance as it covers the planning, building and furnishing of the iconic Masonic Hall in Brisbane Street."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Upon finding out its history, hotel owners Ralph and Suzanne Norton returned it and received pieces of the hotel's original branded crockery in return.
Mrs Norton said she purchased it 30 years ago at auction for the hotel and had no idea of its significance.
The book will be displayed in the QVMAG's community history library.
