Hobart Hurricanes coach Salliann Briggs was made aware of wicketkeeper Emily Smith's now infamous social media post on that fateful Saturday at West Park on the day, Cricket Tasmania chief executive Nick Cummins revealed on Tuesday.

Smith featured in the past three WBBL outings for the Hurricanes with the threat of suspension hanging over her, a saga that reached its conclusion on Monday night when Cricket Australia suspended her for 12 months (with nine suspended) under its anti-corruption code for the "misuse of inside information" for posting a video on Instagram of the team line-up before the abandoned match with the Sydney Thunder.
It's a situation, Cummins said, where "collectively we all could have done better", considering team management should have been in possession of Smith's phone at that time as it took place in a restricted area.
"One of the exceptional circumstances was that there was heavy rain before and during the game, so when players and management arrived they probably didn't switch on in appreciating or realising it was match day, so the team manager wasn't quick enough in collecting all of the phones,'' Cummins said.
"And in Emily's mind she wasn't in match day mode either, so without thinking she took the video, so it is certainly a case of reviewing all of our processes and the team manager knows she did the wrong thing as well."
He confirmed a review had taken place to determine how things had got to that point considering it was such a "departure from normal procedure" and to ensure it does not happen again in the future, with "long conversations" with the team manager taking place.
But he would not buy into the argument that the ban was "heavy handed".
"I think the nature of the sanction in terms of nine months being suspended reflects the fact that while Emily did the wrong thing, it wasn't with malicious intent and was an innocent mistake, so I think the sanction is about right,'' he said.
Meanwhile, Emma Manix-Geeves' inclusion as Smith's replacement is the only change to the Hurricanes' squad for Wednesday's outing with Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval.
Former Riverside wicketkeeper and national indigenous representative Manix-Geeves, who will also be part of the Greater Northern Raiders' 40-over squad this summer, will make her WBBL05 debut against a Sixers side which will be missing skipper Ellyse Perry, who terrorised the Hurricanes last week at Invermay Park, due to a shoulder injury.
Tasmanian Tigers wicketkeeper Manix-Geeves was drafted into the squad on Monday under a special exemption following Smith's suspension. Wednesday's game will start at 5.30pm.
