The son of former Test quick Craig, McDermott's leadership comes in the absence of Test pair Tim Paine and Matthew Wade and the injured Jordan Silk, who joins Tom Rogers on the sidelines.
Jake Doran and Jackson Bird replace the injured duo in the squad of 13, with Mac Wright set to make his one-day debut if selected.
ELSEWHERE IN SPORT
The Tigers will face Queensland on Monday and New South Wales on Wednesday, with both matches to be played at Bellerive Oval from 10am.
Meanwhile, the Tigers' second XI will meet Western Australia in Perth for a four-day clash starting Monday.
Sheffield Shield centurion Charlie Wakim will captain the side, with former Cricket North players Jarrod Freeman, Gabe Bell, Ben Fraser and Michael Jones also in the squad.
