Playing in the four-ball best ball event that kicked off the week, Harold scored the first hole-in-one of the championship and the first of his golfing career.

Playing at Riverside Golf Club, Harold holed out on the 150-metre par-three fourth.

It helped Harold and his playing partner, fellow Darwin competitor Tom Cummings, finish third with 41 points in the morning section at Riverside.

The Riverside morning event was won by NSW players Alf Buckley and Andy Richmond with 43 points.

The best score of the day came at Country Club Tasmania, where Queensland pair Maureen and Jeff Hogan, from Redland Bay, won on that course with 48 points.

At Launceston Golf Club, locals dominated the morning event.

Sally Gibb and Jenni Jago won on their home course with 46 points from Rex Greenberg (Prospect) and Phil McArthur (Riverside), who had 44 points.

Monday's four-ball event was a lead-in to the first round of the 54-hole championship on Tuesday.

Course staff and more than 150 volunteers started work across the three courses from as early as 4.30am on Monday to make final preparations.

The championship, which is hosted by the Tasmanian Veteran Golfers Union, will see more than 450 players rotate around three Launceston golf courses over the rest of the week.
