But it hasn't always been that way.
About 25 years ago, Ms Tabe made the conscious decision to become a better version of herself.
Motivated by her three children, she has since lost more than 30 kilograms - something she said has benefited her both physically, and mentally.
On October 6, Ms Tabe will be among hundreds participating in the Clifford Craig Foundation's Run and Walk for Your Heart event at UTAS Stadium.
The annual five kilometre event encourages people to make a commitment towards improving their heart health, while also raising funds for medical research.
With running and swimming just some of the ways Ms Tabe stays fit, she said one of her biggest motivators was to be a good role model for her children.
"I have always been into sport and fitness in general, but I guess now having three small children, I really want to be a good advocate for them to be healthy, for a good heart and fitness in general," she said.
"After I lost the weight I thought - 'I never want to be that person again'.
"So I just made it a part of my lifestyle to be fit and healthy. It was about making that conscious effort."
Heart disease remains Australia's biggest killer, affecting one in six people.
Australian women are almost three times more likely to die from heart disease than breast cancer.
Tasmania has one of the highest rates of heart disease in the country, particularly in the state's north.
Clifford Craig Foundation's events and communications officer Rebecca Biggelaar said Run and Walk for your Heart - held on first day of daylight savings - was a great way to kick start a healthier season.
"It's a great time of year to be out and about," she said.
"We are coming into a new season and it's a great time for people to think about their health, and getting out and about and staying active.
"We ask people to make a commitment towards better health. To choose to be a better version of themselves."
