Having his first start since April, the Todd Rattray-trained and driven Harjeet crossed to the lead from barrier 6 with Ryley Major settling on his outside.
When Rattray moved clear turning for home, Rohan Hillier switched to the inside on Ryley Major and the $1.40 favourite sprinted quickly to momentarily hit the front.
However Harjeet then rallied strongly to get home by a head.
Harjeet has now won 17 of his 29 starts and his supporters got a bonus, with the gelding touching $3.50 fixed odds and paying $4.10.
Well-bred filly Vonns Angel broke through for her first win in the 2YO Pace to justify her $1.35 quote.
The Marc Butler-trained youngster drew the pole and Ricky Duggan held the lead for a short distance before handing up to Shadow Macray ($23 to $19).
Duggan then bided his time behind the leader before charging up the passing lane in the home straight to score by 5m.
Vonns Angel, having only her seventh start, is by Mach Three from Delightful Lilly who won eight races including the $20,000 2YO Fillies Sweepstakes final in 2012.
The Butler-Duggan combination brought up an early double when Western Glory landed some good bets ($4.60 to $3) in the Rating 55-59 Pace.
Western Glory was given a perfect cart into the race over the last lap, tacking onto the three-wide train behind Miracle Marcus and Bettabrown Tiger.
She stormed past both those horses in the run home to record her seventh win.
Former Victorian gelding Roosevelt put up a big performance to win the Rating 30-49 Pace at his second start for new trainer Bianca Heenan.
The four-year-old was last coming off the back straight and Gareth Rattray had to go four and five wide to get around his 11 rivals.
To make his task even tougher, Roosevelt ($2 fav.) appeared to impeded on the home turn when another horse hung out.
But he was still able to power home for a dominant 1-1/2m win.
