Australian Rally Championship manager Justin Hunt said CAMS has a five-year deal with Event Tasmania to finance the race and "keep the event free for spectators".
"We're really eager to over deliver on the event - and so we should be," Hunt said.
"There's a funding element to these events to ensure we promote Tasmania in a good light. I think what is most fantastic is that the competitors love coming back here."
The undisclosed funding from the state government was just one part behind the event's triumphant return.
Hunt added that the skill-based volunteers filled the missing piece of the puzzle.
"With these national-level races, it's often a financial struggle, but also a resources struggle. You need the right sort of people to deliver a safe and exciting competition; we have that now," he said.
"The local Tassie team on the ground do a fantastic job.
"The roads are visually spectacular. They are also really good technical roads."
The ceremonial 0.82km start in the Inveresk Precinct starts at 5pm on Friday.
