Riverside's Josh Partridge continued the trend of consecutive NTBA singles championship wins as the 20-year-old badminton player defeated Legana's Scott Viney in a competitive three-set final, 21-18 18-21 21-7.

Following in the footsteps of past champions Scott Johnson (2011-13) and Sam Lockett (2016-17) since the event re-commenced in 2011, Partridge defended his title against 2015 champion Viney with the two entering the final following contrasting group stages.

Partridge slipped through his group pool without any major scare, defeating his 2018 grand final opponent, Leigh Cornwell 21-12 22-20 but Viney faced other issues against 16-year-old young gun Johnson King Chun with the rising junior pushing the eventual finalist to a 22-20 third-set finish in his second match of the evening.
With the final featuring many breath-taking rallies for players and spectators, the victor was able to take advantage of a Viney stumble, racing to a 16-2 final-set lead before sealing his fate.
NTBA great Darren Young holds the most titles, claiming eight including seven in a row from 1986-92 before five-time winner Phillip Welch stopped his run in 1993.
