It's even harder to ignore when tents starts popping up with families inside them within view of busy roads, as was the case at Mt Pleasant, Prospect, last month.
Raising three boys with only a tent for shelter has become the difficult new reality for Leah Williams and her partner, Budgie, after she was evicted from a Housing Tasmania property.
We first heard of the family when one of our photographers was driving along the busy road one day.
When The Examiner approached the Williams to see if they would share their story, they were more than happy to offer an insight into what life is like when the safety net is pulled away.
It's harrowing to think that this is a life lived by more than 1600 Tasmanians - who are facing getting through winter without a roof over their heads.
The Williams' story is an example of the many issues surrounding housing in Tasmania.
This is why The Examiner has been supporting our four local charities - Salvation Army, City Mission, St Vincent de Paul and the Benevolent Society - for more than 60 years via the Winter Relief Appeal.
Any dollar raised through the appeal will go directly to these charities to support those in need.
The money can assist with emergency relief, but also allow them to provide and support long-term services such as grief counselling or youth social work.
If you'd like to donate to The Examiner's Winter Relief Appeal, you can by:
