A few months ago I was lucky enough to be a judge for the Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards.

The whole day was a contradiction. It was both enjoyable and painful.
To choose just one winner was tough work and all the judges agonised over making decisions - it was like splitting hairs.
But the overall feeling was one of inspiration. It was inspiring to read the stories of Tasmanian youth, to explore their passions and be shared into their vision for the future.
The Examiner is a long-term sponsor of these presitigious awards. We see the value in providing a voice for youth.
It can be hard work having your voice heard as a young person.
I can remember being told numerous times that I was too young to hold a senior position in our community, that I'm doing well for a young person, or frighteningly, when I was in my early 20s, that I would have to make a decision to continue exploring leadership opportunities or become a mother - that I couldn't have both.
We should never place limits on people. Particularly those people considered to be youth.
Why would we limit the potential?
There is a comfort that the Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards brings to the community.
It's knowing that our community will be and is in safe hands.
The Examiner is proude to tell these stories, the stories of youth and their achievements, on a daily basis.
Congratulations to all the winners, finalists and nominees. Keep striving for change and speak your truth.
