The property is being eyed off by UTAS as part of the finalisation of its Inveresk campus approach.
UTAS spokesman Jason Purdie said the Launceston land parcel was part of a proposal to deal with parking and traffic management associated with the Inveresk development.
However, details on the property such as where it is and how big it is are unknown at this stage.
"We hope to be in a position to share that news with our community soon," he said.

UTAS also recently finalised the purchase on the former K&D building in Hobart, following a decision by the University Council to approve a move to a city-centric campus model in the south.
The decision was made at the University Council's meeting in Burnie and will see UTAS abandon the Sandy Bay campus and move to a significant CBD presence.
It's expected the process will take the next 10 to 15 years. UTAS is also progressing its Northern Transformation plan, with new campuses to be built in Launceston and Burnie.
Mr Purdie said the purchase of the K&D building was "the last major component" of the southern campus strategy plan.
The proposed city-centric campus will run from the original home of the university at the Domain, along Melville Street. The campus will be anchored with a central library and public square on the former Webster building and carpark.
