A number of grounds were highlighted to benefit from the funding, including Launceston's Churchill Park and Riverside's Windsor Park.
Both Labor Senator Penny Wong and Federal MP for Bass Ross Hart believed that funding would support local sports participation.
"One of the things Federal Labor has been very focussed on is how do we improve sporting participation at a grassroots and community level," Ms Wong said.
"It's really important that we understand that it is a rite of passage for many parents here in Northern Tasmania to spend their time here at Churchill Park but also Windsor Park and other suburban soccer grounds," Mr Hart said.
"The standard of the playing surface here [Churchill Park] has improved over the years but the facilities can always be improved."

City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten and West Tamar mayor Christina Holmdahl said the proposed funding will go towards a number of upgrades wanted at both facilities, such as extra fields for Churchill Park and lighting at Windsor Park.
