Paul Eriksson, who starts on Friday, replaces Alicia Fuller who has been acting CEO since Vaughn Lynch resigned last May.
Fuller will return to her previous position of racing operations manager.
A statement issued by Tasracing said Eriksson was "a highly experienced senior executive … with a skill set covering finance, governance and operations including 13 years in sport.
He spent five years in racing administration, mostly as general manager of finance and IT for Racing NSW, and he was the inaugural chief financial officer of the GWS Giants.
"Before accepting the Tasracing position, Eriksson was the group CFO of the Cronulla Sharks during a time of significant change and rebuilding," the statement said.
Chairman Gene Phair said that Fuller had done "an outstanding job" during her tenure as acting CEO.
