United Firefighter Union vice-president Leigh Hills said members commenced industrial action last Thursday in response to the state government's new wages position.
"At this stage we will be on low-level actions unless the government chooses to stick by their wages position," he said.
The government ditched its 2 per cent wage cap policy on February 28 in favour of a 2 per cent rise in the first year of a new agreement, a 2.25 per cent rise in the second year, and 2.5 per cent in the third year.
But public sector unions rejected the government's revised pay and conditions agreement.
Mr Hills said all unions made it clear to the government the increase coupled with giving up conditions was not going to be acceptable and "that’s what they came back with".
"There was giving away Launceston Cup half-day holiday, Devonport Cup half-day holiday and Easter Tuesday as an example, as well as overtime provisions," Mr Hills said.
The firefighter union will meet with the Police, Fire and Emergency Management Department for the first time in about six weeks on March 12, with Mr Hills sighting fires and conversations between Premier Will Hodgman and Treasurer Peter Gutwein as the reason for the delay.
"Since the government released its wages policy we haven’t had a new wage offer and I expect we may get a new offer tomorrow," Mr Hill said.
"We’d be looking to see the government move to a position that has real wage increases not increases that cut members wages."
