Resuming at 4-67 in reply to NSW's first innings of 150, Queensland ground their way to 7-124 at lunch.
NSW bowlers made the most of the Dukes ball on the green-tinged pitch, restricting the hosts to a scoring rate of just under two runs an over.
Queensland lost key man Charlie Hemphrey for 34 - the highest score of the match to date.
