The Tamar Bicycle Users Group Bike Week pedals into gear with a community ride on Sunday, March 4, followed by a public forum on Wednesday.
Featuring a panel composed of UTAS' Dr Helen Norrie, Councillor Hugh McKenzie, Cityprom executive officer Steve Henty and Alison Hetherington from the Bicycle Network, the forum will tap into discussion sparked by recent efforts to revitalise the city centre.
"What we're saying here is yes it's bike week, but this forum is not just about bikes," said TBUG president Malcolm Reid. "It's about what we can learn about other places where CBDs have thrived and are good for business."

Mr Reid thinks bikes could be part of the solution - thought not the entirety of it.
"What we are seeing is that the more people-friendly you can make a CBD the better," he said. "And people-friendly means bike-friendly."
"What we'd like to see is a city where business and council get together and create off-street parking that is cheap and effective," Mr Reid added, noting that a rethink of key one-way streets could also help create a more usable city.
"If we can change the CBD in that direction, it will be a boon."
The Heritage Forest community ride will begin at 10.30am in the Churchill Park car park, with a free barbecue to follow. Riders of all levels and ages are encouraged to attend.
Other bike week events include a flatland BMX workshop with Matt Wootton in Civic Square on Monday, March 4 from 5pm, and a free bike maintenance workshop at Cycology at 6:30pm Tuesday.
The Launceston premiere of Bikes of Wrath will take place at the Star Theatre on Thursday.
Wednesday's forum will take place at the Enterprize Centre on Paterson Street from 5:30pm. Bookings can be made through Cityprom.
