Numerous Tasmanian tourism ventures struck gold at the Australian Tourism Awards on Friday night, with eight awards going to businesses in the state.

The night had more than 800 representatives of tourism groups across the nation celebrate their success in a custom-built marquee in the Cataract Gorge.
Tourism Tasmania chief executive officer John Fitzgerald said the night had great results for the state.
"If we could produce another one of these [award ceremonies] it would be for the city of Launceston," Mr Fitzgerald said.
"What a night we put on here showcasing to 840 of the most influential tourism operators right across the country."
Port Arthur Historic Sites won golds in the cultural tourism and major tourist attraction categories.
Communications manager at Port Arthur Historic Sites Jennifer Fitzgerald said they were very lucky to receive the awards.

"We got silver last year for cultural tourism and it was a strong contention of very good operators," Ms Fitzgerald said.
"Tassie is gold all over and the difference between silver and gold is very minimal.
"You're getting down to one point or half a point, we're really just over the moon to accept."
Port Arthur historic sites spent $13 million on a new visitor centre in 2017.
MACq 01 Hotel took home gold in the deluxe accommodation category.
MACq 01 general manager Jake Smith said it was their first time nominated in the section, and to take home this award out on home soil in a room full of incredible tourism operators was great.
"For us it's about celebrating Tasmania," Mr Smith said.
"We're not just a hotel, we're a story telling hotel and Tasmania really comes through the stories."
State Liberal MP Michael Ferguson thanked Tasmanian businesses for making the night shine.
"It was a great night," he said.
"The feedback from around the room was that it [Tourism Awards] was the best ever.
"That is further going to cement Australia's place as a wonderful place for food and beverage and hospitality."
Tasmania came third in terms of the overall national medal tally.
Mr Ferguson said that for a small state such as Tasmania to win so many awards was phenomenal.
Tasmanian tourism businesses that were awarded silver at the ceremony were Pennicott Wilderness Adventures, NRMA Port Arthur, Roaring 40s Kayaking and Avalon Coastal Retreat.
Coal River Farm and Three Capes Track both two home bronze awards.
