The first day will be spent in Sapporo to discuss agri-tourism opportunities before moving to Tokyo for meetings with government ministers and events to showcase Tasmanian products.
Included in the itinerary is a visit to the National Institute of Polar Research, a Tasmanian wine masterclass, investor meetings, and a presentation on Tasmanian forestry.
The final day includes meetings with the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and another with the Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry.
Mr Hodgman said the trip was borne out of the government's trade strategy to make the state globally competitive and allow its businesses to enhance their presence internationally.
The delegation of 15 members leaves the state on March 4.
