Tasmania’s two leading jockeys, Craig Newitt and Siggy Carr, will both miss the Tasmanian Oaks meeting at Mowbray on Sunday due to suspensions.

Carr will also be sidelined on Launceston Cup day.
Although both jockeys last week indicated their intention to fight their penalties, chief steward Scott Quill said they had since withdrawn their appeals.
Carr, who was suspended on Hobart Cup day, exercised her right to defer her penalty for nine days which allowed her to ride at Mowbray last Wednesday and Flemington on Saturday.
It proved a profitable decision as she scored one of the biggest wins of her career on The Inevitable in Saturday’s $160,000 C S Hayes Stakes.
Carr was suspended for two meetings for careless riding on Dobell at Elwick and Newitt got one meeting for careless riding on Winky Dink on Gold Sovereign night.
Between them, the two jockeys have ridden more than 100 winners already this season – Newitt 61 and Carr 43.
Newitt was to have ridden one of the top fancies, Our Long Sali, in the $150,000 Oaks. He will be replaced by Anthony Darmanin who has ridden the Adam Trinder-trained filly twice for placings behind The Inevitable in the Tasmanian Guineas and 3YO Trophy.
Meanwhile, Newitt is expected to front Racing Victoria stewards in Melbourne today (Wednesday) to give evidence at a wide-ranging investigation into alleged betting activity.
Newitt said last week that he had already spoken to stewards twice and “I don’t think I have anything to worry about.”
Interstate racing web sites last week identified Newitt, 33, as one of several jockeys involved in the six-month long investigation.
OAKS DOMINANCE
Interstate horses dominate the 12 entries for the Tasmanian Oaks, with seven from Victoria and one from NSW.
They are headed by Godolphin filly Rock Dove, the Strutt Stakes winner trained by James Cummings.
Leon Macdonald, Leon Corstens, Lloyd Kennewell, Henry Dwyer, Peter Gelagotis, Pat Carey and Matthew Brown also have entries.
Acceptances close at 9am today.

Early bird tickets are again available for Launceston Cup day reducing the admission cost from $35 to $30 or $30 to $25 concession.
They are available from Routleys, Sues of Invermay, Kings Meadows Pharmacy, Judy’s Body Fashions, Autobarn and selected UBET outlets or online at www.goracingtasmania.com.au.
There will also be a free Metro bus service operating from St John St leaving from every 15 minutes from 10.30am until 1.30pm and returning to the city from 4pm until 9pm.
