Track specialist Just Browsing is considered one of the leading local chances to resist a strong interstate challenge.
Trained by Gary Fahey at Mangalore, Just Browsing has been tagged the ‘Classic Queen’ this season, winning several prestigious age-classics in Launceston including the Illingworth Classic, Tasmanian Oaks, Breeders Classic, J G Nelson Cup and Ladies Bracelet.
A winner of nine of her 11 starts over the 515 metres, Just Browsing has drawn box 1 in her heat and the brilliant bitch looks very hard to beat.
Bet365 has posted an all-in market on the Launceston Cup final and Just Browsing is the $7 favourite ahead of Brandi Alexander and Buckle Up Rose at $9.
Other top fancies are Be Like Bill, Muppet and Hello Nugget all at $11.
Six interstate chasers will contest the 2019 series, led by 2018 Launceston Cup winner Del Rey, the Queenslander returning to the TAB Racing Centre where she’ll look to become just the third greyhound to claim back-to-back series wins.
Del Rey, trained at Park Ridge in Queensland by Tom Tzouvelis, has since gone on to claim further group success with victory in the group 3 Gold Coast Cup at Albion Park.
She has also made the finals of the group 2 Lismore Workers Club Cup (520m), group 3 Ipswich Gold Cup (520m) and, most recently, the group 3 Queensland Cup (600m).
Tzouvelis takes a two-pronged attack into this year’s series, with Brandi Alexander (Magic Sprite - Miss Lauryn), a winner of nine of her 28 starts, taking her place in heat 2 from box 1.
Corykodi, who steps out from box 6 in the final heat for Lauderdale trainer Eric Haldane, will be looking to become the sixth greyhound to complete the Devonport Cup – Launceston Cup double.
The last to achieve the feat was Pantera Nera in 2017.
The seven heat winners plus the fastest second progress to the final.
