The Hurricanes’ newest recruit – Afghan spinner Qais Ahmad – has been called up in the 18-year-old’s place, while form paceman Riley Meredith returns to replace injured all-rounder James Faulkner.
Freeman was somewhat of a surprise signing when unveiled as the replacement for retired South African Johan Botha last month, but impressed with 0-11 off two overs in a promising debut against Brisbane Heat.
He was targeted by opening duo Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey in a big loss to Adelaide Strikers, but picked up Jake Lehmann as his maiden BBL wicket.
A win on Thursday night would see the Hurricanes secure top spot and a home semi-final.
