AJA chairman Des O’Keefe said on Twitter that apprentice jockey Breaana Smith, who was thrown from Winky Dink when the mare reared and fell over backwards, was “the luckiest girl in the world.”
“(This) could so easily have been career-ending or much worse,” O’Keefe said.
“The horse was cleared to run! How?”
Vision of the fall was posted on social media and it shows Winky Dink landing heavily on her back.
Luckily, Smith was thrown slightly to the side and the mare did not land on top of her.

Winky Dink continued to be fractious as she was led onto the track.
Following normal protocols, stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of Windy Dink when she got to the barriers.
She was declared fit to take her place in the field.
The Glenn Stevenson-trained first-starter, who had been sensationally backed from a best price of $17 on Bet365 to start at $2.80, went on to finish third after being badly hampered and racing ungenerously just after the start and racing wide.
The official stewards’ report states that Smith was “cleared by the on-course doctor” to take her ride on the horse.
However she complained of soreness after the race and Stevenson’s stable foreman David Keating later reported on Twitter that she had broken her wrist.
Alex Patis has replaced Smith on her two rides in Hobart on Sunday where the features races are the $100,000 Elwick Stakes for two-year-olds, $50,000 Summer Cup and $50,000 WFA TAB Stakes.
Two Victorian-trained first-starters take on the locals in the Elwick Stakes but it’s last-start winners Mystical Pursuit and Strike Celebration that are vying for early favouritism.
Former Hobart Cup winner Count Da Vinci and Devonport Cup placegetters Eastender, Speed Force and Settler’s Stone clash in the Summer Cup, also run at weight-for-age.
Class horses Hellova Street and I’m Wesley should fight out the TAB Stakes but, after some of the results at Mowbray on Wednesday night, shell-shocked punters might tread cautiously.
