Barry Campbell will be represented by first-starter Deroche, a 10-length trial winner, and fellow Spreyton trainer Adam Trinder by Mystical Pursuit who won her only start at the same track five weeks ago.
Campbell won the race with Derasa in 2017 and Trinder scored with Mystic Journey last year.
Derasa was being aimed at this year’s feature mares’ races but has been sidelined by a minor suspensory ligament injury.
Campbell has two added incentives to win the Alfa Bowl as he trained the mighty Alfa to six victories in six Tasmanian starts and his Ensign Lodge stables sponsor the race.
FOUR-MONTH BAN
Promising junior driver Tayor Ford has been disqualified for four months for an incident in Hobart in November.
Stewards charged Ford under Rule 231 which states “a person shall not assault anyone employed, engaged or participating in the harness racing industry.”
She pleaded guilty.
SANDOWN TARGET
Promising Tasmanian mare Clean Acheeva could have her next start at Sandown next week.
Launceston owner Alan Charlton said a city run was a possibility after the mare’s good second at Sale on Sunday.
Clean Acheeva was the last horse prepared by legendary Longford trainer Mick Burles, of The Cleaner fame.
She ran third in 2018 Thousand Guineas before finishing just behind the placegetters in the Strutt Stakes and Tasmanian Oaks.
The mare is now trained in Victoria by Ken Keys.
Burles is not a silent shareholder in the mare as he inadvertently stated on Monday but has a “commercial arrangement” with the owner who leases his famous black and blue colours.
