The St Helens Hospital Auxiliary has been fundraising to fit out the new palliative care unit at the new St Helens District Hospital.
Their goal was to raise $100,000 through sales from the St Helens Tip Shop and donations from the community.
The latest donation was $1500 from the organisers of the St Helens Market.
St Helens Hospital Auxiliary secretary Christine Treloggen said she was overwhelmed by the support of both the community and those visiting the region.
“We decided to fit the palliative care unit, because we did that for the old hospital,” she said.

“Our goal was $100,000, not even envisaging that we would get there, but that was our goal.”
She said the auxiliary ran the St Helens Tip Shop with three volunteers in May 2017.
Now, about 28 volunteers are helping out.
Ms Treloggen said the auxiliary volunteers were very pleased with their efforts so far.
“It feels fantastic,” she said.
Ms Treloggen said the St Helens Hospital Auxiliary began running the St Marys Tip Shop on Monday, with funds raised to go to the St Marys District Hospital.
