Selected by head coach Adam Griffith in consultation with Cricket Tasmania's under-19 male head coach Ali de Winter, the Hurricanes Foundation Northern Rookie Program aims to give talented young Tasmanians their first taste of the Hurricanes, with a view to developing them for future selection.
The male and female players will be considered members of their respective Big Bash squads, taking part in media opportunities, fan events and player appearances, as well as training sessions, matches and pre-season commitments during the upcoming BBL and WBBL seasons.
The Northern rookies would need to be officially upgraded to be eligible for match selection.
The shortlist of four features young guns from the Greater Northern Raiders, the Premier League's newest team featuring players from across North and North-West Tasmania.
This season's Northern rookie will be selected following the under-19 male national championships in mid-December.
Northern Tasmanian clubs can nominate female players to attend the rookie trials, which will be from 10am-1pm on Saturday at the NTCA Indoor Centre.
Hurricanes women’s head coach Salliann Briggs will oversee the trials and make her selection.
They will then join the Hurricanes’ WBBL squad from Monday, December 3, until their home game against the Perth Scorchers on Tuesday, December 18, at Bellerive Oval.
After Christmas, they'll re-join the Hurricanes women’s squad for two games at Launceston’s UTAS Stadium on Sunday and Monday, December 30-31, against Brisbane Heat.
