Sandhu has instead been named in Tasmania’s three-day Future’s League 13-man squad to take on Queensland at Kingston’s Twin Oval Monday, with the state body preferring the former New South Welshman to focus on red-ball cricket during a block of Sheffield Shield matches.
The Prime Minister’s XI will be captained by George Bailey in Canberra on Wednesday with Sam Heazlett and Blake Edwards being called upon to replace Sandhu and Nic Maddinson.
The Tigers drew their season-opening Future’s League fixture with NSW at Blacktown, despite dominating most of the match.
Sandhu made a first-innings 85, Clive Rose smacked a ton and captain Charles Wakim hit 88, while Alex Pycroft took 4-15 in helping dismiss NSW cheaply.
Entry is free with the match to start at 10.30am.
