NSW was 4-97 overnight but lost 6-64 during its first innings on Wednesday after Tasmania declared at 9-435.
Ex-Launceston all-rounder Alex Pyecroft was the chief destroyer with 4-15 off 15 overs late on day two, while Lawrence Neil-Smith (2-15 off 13 overs), Riley Meredith (2-21 off 11 overs), Clive Rose (1-22 off 12) and Hamish Kingston (1-32 off 16 overs) cleaned up the rest.
NSW No.3 Daniel Solway was the Blues’ top scorer with 35 off 141 ball, followed by Baxter Holt (26) and Chris Green (23).
Tasmania’s second innings began shakily with Josh Hazlewood dismissing Harry Nichols for a third-ball duck.
However, Caleb Jewell (66) and captain Charles Wakim (48) helped the visitors to 4-158 before a declaration came – setting NSW 432 for victory.
NSW was 2-43 off 17 overs at stumps with a day to play.
