Grade 9 and 10 students participated in the Beacon Foundation Polish mentoring course, with students learning from some community mentors about their pathways to employment.
Students asked the panel of mentors how they got to their position and what skills they would likely need.
Beacon Foundation lead facilitator Renee Frost said the course was aimed at bringing school and employment together for the participants.
“The course is aimed at giving students some time to practice their communication skills and to encourage them to be more confident,” she said.
Mrs Frost said the course was a national one run across school campuses in Northern Tasmania and the country, with many schools in the North participating.
Mentors included Mark Deverell, from St Giles, and Meander Valley mayor Craig Perkins.
Participants were invited to ask questions of their mentors over lunch, with mock interview sessions conducted in the afternoon.
Mrs Frost said the program helped to encourage skills that will be transferable in the future.
The work readiness course was completed by Grade 9 and 10 students at Prospect High School on Monday.
