The club is expected to eventually be housed within the yet-to-be-built Rowing Tasmania complex, but in the meantime will be set up near the Silo complex.
The news comes as the university prepares to host its annual North-versus-South race, which will be held on the Tamar River from 8.30am Saturday.
The North took a clean sweep of the 5km course last year and is expected to be every bit as strong in 2018 with Connor Ryan and former national representative Shaun Finlayson headlining the men’s squad, and sisters Lili and Ali Wrigley leading the women’s crew.
The South will be led by Australia-capped pair Wilson Mure and Sara Waitzer, and under-19 state champions Amy Bain and Meg Messer.
“What a wonderful way to see in spring ... with a showcase of some of the state’s best talent and a friendly test of regional rivalry,” university vice-chancellor Professor Rufus Black said.
“We know how passionate people are of their regions and we would expect there to be plenty of volume coming from both sides of the river.”
