Another trip to the mainland has added another two gold awards to the St Patrick’s College Concert Band mantle.
The group, consisting of 39 students between grades 8 and 12, recently returned from the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival as part of their biennial tour.
Competing in both the concert band and big band ensembles, the group won gold in both.
Since 2006 the college has secured seven gold awards at interstate festivals, a fact Fiona Mowat, the ensemble and primary school coordinator, puts down to nurturing talent early.
“There’s only a handful that have not been here since grade 3,” Ms Mowat said, referring to the primary school program she oversees.
Logan Smith, one of the school’s two music captains, put the school’s stellar record succinctly.
“When we go away, we win,” he said.
