Artists Medhanit Barratt, Sakthi Ravitharan and EWAH & The Vision of Paradise will perform at the church for Breathtaking, one of about 30 events happening in Launceston during Junction Arts Festival
Curated by the festival’s creative director Greg Clarke, each artist was handpicked from a pool of hundreds of talented performers.
The artists bring their exceptional voices and powerful performances to the acoustic haven that is St John’s Church.
Barratt is a contemporary singer-songwriter and will perform a collection of originals at the event.
“I’m working on the idea of the human condition and trying to revolve my songs around things everyone can relate to,” she said.
This year is the first time the teenager will perform for Junction.
“The experience is really, really special and it is so nice to be able to give back to the arts community,” Barratt said.
“Everyone is so lovely and encouraging and, I think, to support arts in Tasmania is something everyone needs to be a part of.”
As the daughter of Mark Barratt, owner of Barratt’s Music, getting involved in music and singing was “inevitable”.
“It is just something I’ve been drawn to forever,” she said.

A lover of English and creative writing, Barratt began penning songs in primary school.
“My cousins and I used to have a band and that’s what got me into writing my own songs,” she said.
“I love the process, I find it quite therapeutic.”
Breathtaking will also feature traditional South Indian classical music, with Ravitharan performing vocals and Santhana Gopala Krishnan Vaidhyanathan on the mridangam.
Band EWAH & The Vision of Paradise will re-imagine songs from their eight-track debut album, Everything Fades to Blue.
- Breathtaking will be held at St John’s Church from 3pm on September 8. Tickets cost $15 concession and $20 adults, and are available from www.junctionartsfestival.com.au
