Rangers have endured struggles on and off the field this season but had plenty of reasons for celebration on Saturday as Sciulli’s men reversed the scoreline from the two sides’ corresponding fixture in May.
The win helped Rangers jump into sixth spot on the NPL Tasmania table, but Sciulli was more pleased by his players being rewarded in a trying time for the club.
“Not many teams go to Darcy Street and come away with all the points, but it was more than just a win for us,” Sciulli said.
“The club’s in a very strange place at the moment where we’re short on players due to injury and sickness and things like that, and we’ve found ourselves in a place where it’s extremely hard to field a team each weekend.
“It wasn’t really expected to be honest, I know what they’re capable of but you never know when it’s going to come and it came today so I was very happy with that.”
Rangers opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Nick Lanau-Atkinson made a tricky run into the penalty box and dished off for Matthew Youd’s first goal of the season.
Tenzing Anderson nodded in a Lanau-Atkinson corner at the near post four minutes later, but the final play of the half saw Oscar Thomas head in a corner of his own to peg back the lead.
A close-range Daniel Cristy free kick restored the two-goal buffer early in the second half before Adam Gorrie’s final-minute penalty rounded out the scoring.
A hamstring strain to Anderson and a late knock to Alex Fulton were the only concerns on an otherwise joyful day for Sciulli.
“Jesse Fulton was outstanding and everyone else played a really serviceable game.
“We were really good in defence and we attacked South as well - we didn't play the game where you just sit back and wait for the better team to come at you, we wanted to take it to South a little bit and we did that.”
In the women’s Super League, Taroona completed a 3-0 win over Clarence United to leapfrog Hobart Zebras into second spot.
