Launceston teenager James Curran has been named alongside fellow Cricket North star Jarrod Freeman in a Tasmanian development squad to tour Darwin this month.

The two young spinners were named in a 15-man squad which will play four 50-over matches, two T20s and a 12-game against a Darwin Invitational XI between Sunday and July 27.

Curran, a national under-16 representative, finished his second senior season in Cricket North earlier this year, taking a five-for against Riverside in a T20 and scoring his maiden half-century in the preliminary final against Westbury.

Freeman’s selection follows his debut Sheffield Shield outing in February, where he picked up former Test opener Ed Cowan as his first domestic scalp

The team will be coached by state talent manager Ben Rohrer and former national bowling coach Allister De Winter.
