Clarence were never headed in the middle quarters, its six goals-to-one burst setting up a 7.4 (46) to 2.7 (19) win.
“The scoreline flattered us. Clarence were very good, as we got absolutely dominated through the midfield,” Blues coach Alex Gibbins said.
“We really struggled with their spread and contested ball. We just got annihilated.”
Launceston counted seven inside 50s to two in the first term, but led by just two behinds in a goalless opening.
The Blues remained goalless from five shots – one less than Clarence – by half-time to trail by 19 points.
“You convert a couple of those and it can be a different game,” Gibbins said.
But the coach said the reality is the reigning premiers have fallen behind its rivals.
“With personnel changes and the weight of injuries, it’s really started to take control,” Gibbins said. “But it doesn’t mean we can’t win it again.”
