The former Tornadoes star is set to return home in 2019 to play for North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos.
The announcement comes on the eve of her SEABL homecoming ahead for Dandenong’s visit to Launceston on Saturday night.
“It’s really all a bit random this,” Roberts admitted.
“I did have a few AFLW clubs approach me over the last year, but I was like no and didn’t really look into it.
“But North Melbourne approached me because they’re obviously coming into the season for 2019 and that’s always been the club I supported since I was a kid.
“Once my family heard about it, they were very pushy I do it to be honest.
“So I heard what [North] had to say and met up with the club a few times and decided I’d give it a crack as long as I will be able to keep playing basketball.”
Plans to reduce the WNBL season from this summer allows a window for Roberts to play the premier women’s football competition and return playing in the SEABL.
The Kangaroos already have earmarked the 192cm power forward basketballer into the ruck role.
The 25-year-old is uncertain to how the code-hoping move will all turn out.
“They were really good and really flexible around that, and that kind of helped made my decision,” she said.
“At the moment it’s a go ahead and I will give it a go, but I have to say I have no previous experience at all.”
Roberts will have her mind at the immediate task at hand up against the Tornadoes.
“I’m excited to play back at home,” she said, “but at the same time, it’s also pretty nerve-wracking coming up against your old squad.”
