The Examiner understands TSL clubs were told on Wednesday that they would receive $110,000 in AFL funding until 2023 – an increase of $3000 a year – but will have to meet KPIs.
The following conditions for the league’s survival include:
- Community engagement, participation programs and talent programs to be performed in branding supplied by AFLT under the ‘Team Tasmania’ banner and TAC competition brand
- North West Region is the responsibility of AFLT in the context of development zone KPIs
- Club-by-club review conducted every six months and final review no later than September 30 each season – purpose of this is to review performance and finalise funding linked to KPIs, as a last resort if there is ongoing non-compliance of KPIs then that club licence may be terminated.
The development league’s age limit will also be removed, while the AFL has backed down on a previous threat to stop live streaming matches and therefore doing away with the match review panel.
It is also believed bus subsidies will be slashed significantly with clubs to bear the shortfall.
A majority of clubs support the compromise, however, some are not a sold on the competition plans.
