The 31-year-old two-time Launceston premiership player (2008 and 2011) has been a key pillar in the Blues’ forward line for many years and has become known for his love of a big haul.
Whiting has booted 15 goals in six matches this season to date, including a bag of six against North Hobart.
Barring a brief stint with Lilydale in 2010 and Victorian club Tatura in the Goulburn Valley Football League in 2013, Whiting said Windsor Park is his football home and that he holds this weekend’s achievements in high regard.
“It’s an honour to get life membership of a prestigious and one of the oldest clubs in Australia,” Whiting said.
“The premierships stand out as they are hard to come by. I arrived at the club when they had won two flags in a row and I got used to that winning culture. Then we had a little rebuild and went on to win the state flag in 2011 which was special.
“This year we’ve still got a lot to improve on as we still haven’t had our full team on the park yet and we haven’t played a full four-quarter game against a good side yet.
“So hopefully we can work towards doing that and with a full team the year’s going to be pretty exciting.
“My body is feeling good at the moment and I’ve been playing a bit more up the field this year on the wing… getting a few more possessions and trying to hit the scoreboard as well.”
The Blues face Clarence at home from 2pm.
