The announcement coincides with the women’s side rebranded from the Roar to the Tigers to fall in line with their men’s counterparts.
She will replace Julia Price this summer after a decision was first made in January not to renew her contract.
Price had been in charge of Tasmania for the past five years, including as inaugural Hobart Hurricanes coach, but was axed over poor form.
Briggs brings the experience of 114 one-day and 28 Twenty20 internationals for England to Tasmania.
“Like anybody coming into a new organisation, you kind of want to put your own stamp onto it,” Briggs said.
Cricket Tasmania had first ticked off on the the coach’s appointment last month.
The 34-year-old has cast her eye over the state’s talent and is set to announce her leadership team soon.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know them as people more than anything because for me coaching is about influencing,” she said.
“You can only do this when you have built those relationships with those girls.”
