Rowing Tasmania chief executive Rob Prescott said the 1000 competitors descending on the picturesque venue near Sheffield present a major boost for the sport and economy in the host state.
“We get this every six years and for Rowing Tasmania to host a national event is very important to us from a point of view of using our course which is probably the best in Australia and it gives us a chance to showcase what we do as a rowing state,” he said.
“It’s an important financial boost for the North-West Coast and indeed the whole state because masters rowers tend to come over as a holiday and explore around.
“It is also an opportunity for our hard-working volunteers to be part of a national event.
“The venue is looking fantastic. It’s warm and calm and could not look any better.”
Rowers from every state and territory plus New Zealand will be taking part in the scheduled 333 races from 9.15am on Thursday through to 2.45pm on Sunday.
Para rowers are also competing including two from Tasmania University Boat Club.
Rowing Australia chief executive Ian Robson will be visiting the championships over the weekend.
