Victoria University’s National Centre for Vocational Education Research report predicts 80,900 job openings for farm managers nationally.
“Employment in agriculture, forestry and fishing will benefit from the lower value of the Australian dollar relative to the currencies of Australia’s major trading partners and expanding export opportunities through free trade agreements with countries in East Asia,” the report said.
Tasmanian Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck said jobseekers had options in many agricultural roles.
“As mechanisation and greater use of technology becomes commonplace on farms we can expect to see growing demand for highly-skilled professionals and managers in the agriculture industry,” Mr Colbeck said.
Agriculture it is not only a job for older Tasmanians.
“Particularly among our most productive farmers and farm managers, we see a much younger cohort than people expect.”
